"Issa—" She leaned forward and kissed him, her lips brushing his. It was brief, barely a whisper of touch, but it sent a shiver through her. He pulled back, his eyes wide. "Issa—" "I know," she said. "But I could not wait any longer." He smiled, a small, hesitant smile. "Neither could I." They sat in the lamplight, their hands intertwined, the night stretching around them. The future was uncertain, but for this moment, they had each other. And that was enough.
