Ever After Begins

…I sank onto the edge of my bed, the opened locket cool against my palm, the two notes lying side-by-side. One spoke of a life unlived, the other urged me to remember a past I couldn’t grasp. The storm I’d felt brewing earlier had finally broken, not with thunder and lightning, but with the insidious, quiet erosion of everything I thought I knew. The Ever After had indeed begun, and I was standing at its threshold, utterly unprepared for the darkness that lay beyond.
