…Stephon had thought he could break me. He had thought he could turn me into a soulless guard, an extension of his own cruelty. But he was wrong. In forcing me to witness the suffering of others, he had inadvertently forged a bond. A bond with a girl I barely knew, a bond born of shared trauma and a desperate yearning for escape. I didn't know how this would end. I didn't know if we would succeed, or if this key would lead us to an even greater peril. But I knew one thing: I wasn't alone anymore. And in this dark, unforgiving world, that was everything. I looked down at the key, its cool metal a promise against my skin. We would find a way. We had to. The fight had just begun.
