…David squeezed her shoulder. "Come on, Sarah. We need to go. We need to get more officers out here." She nodded, tearing her eyes away from the silent, decaying structure. As they turned to leave, a gust of wind rustled through the trees, carrying with it a faint, almost imperceptible whisper. It was the sound of the woods, indifferent to their plight, but also, perhaps, holding secrets yet to be uncovered. The hidden path, the abandoned structure – they were just the outer layers of a deeper mystery, a mystery that was slowly, terrifyingly, beginning to reveal its shape. The woods’ secrets were far from exhausted. They had only just begun to reveal their deeper, darker ones.
