Are you really going to let fear hold you back?” He stepped closer, his charisma now a suffocating pressure. “Don’t be a loser, Liam. Be part of something. Be part of this.” The choice was stark, laid bare in the dim beam of our flashlights. Follow Kai down this dark, opportunistic path, or try to pull myself back from the brink, to escape the inevitable fallout. The thrill of the night had curdled into a knot of dread, and the sense of belonging I’d craved now felt like a trap. The neon lure had led me somewhere far more dangerous than I’d ever imagined.
