She left one night and never came back. My family assumed she ran away. They never spoke of her." Eleanor's hand went to her pocket, her fingers curling around the acorn-shaped key. "I think she left something behind. Something she wanted found." Daniel's eyes narrowed. "What did you find?" Eleanor looked at him, then at the oak tree, then back at the dark, empty manor. The truth was buried beneath the oak. But the note had warned her: some truths were not meant to be unearthed. She took a breath. "I found a key."
