…But as the silence of the ravine began to reassert itself, a new sound, faint at first, drifted towards them. It was a melody, soft and haunting, a voice that seemed to weave itself into the very fabric of the mist. It was beautiful, impossibly so, and utterly out of place in this desolate, dangerous landscape. It was a song that tugged at something deep within Astrid, a melody she felt she almost knew, yet couldn't quite place. And it was coming from deeper within the ravine, from the very direction the Troll had just departed. A shiver, unrelated to the cold, traced its way down Astrid's spine. The forest, it seemed, was far from done with them.
