…A song, pure and beautiful, drifted on the wind, seeming to come from the direction they were running. It was a melody that spoke of ancient forests and forgotten glades, a siren’s call that could lure a man to his doom, or perhaps, just perhaps, to salvation. But as it mingled with the Troll’s roars, Astrid’s mind, despite its own terror, registered a chilling ambiguity. Was it a guide, or a lure? Was the Huldra offering aid, or leading them deeper into a trap, or perhaps, even drawing the monstrous Troll away from them? The forest, it seemed, held more than one kind of danger, and the path ahead was shrouded in a peril as enchanting as it was deadly.
