…The celebration lasted until dawn. By the time the first rays of light touched the mountains, everyone was exhausted but happy. The journey to Ashen Hall still loomed, but it felt less daunting now. They had each other, a home to return to, and a future to build. As Kaelen lay beside Laura in the quiet of the tower room, watching the morning light creep across the ceiling, he felt a peace he hadn’t known in years. “I love you,” he said. She turned, her eyes half-closed. “I know. And I love you. Now sleep. We leave at noon.” He smiled and closed his eyes. Grit snored at the foot of the bed. The sanctuary hummed with life. Everything, for this moment, was exactly as it should be.
