…"Together," she said. Maren nodded. "Place your hands on the crystal. Close your eyes. The relic will pull you into its heart. Do not let go of each other." They formed a circle, hands clasped. Tee felt the crystal's cold surface, then a rush of energy. The world dissolved into light and shadow, and she fell into the unknown. When she landed, she was in a vast hall of mirrors, each reflecting a different version of herself. Some were happy, some broken, some victorious. In the center stood Lady Elephant Legs, her legs like tree trunks, her eyes burning with malice. "Welcome, granddaughter," she said. "I've been waiting."
