…Tee clutched the journal to her chest and rose to her feet, the feather warm in her hand. She was no longer the frightened girl who had fled. She was a mother, and she would not be broken. “I’m not here to run,” she said, her voice steady. “I’m here to end this.” Lady Elephant Legs laughed, a sound like grinding stones. “You are nothing but a child playing at rebellion. You cannot stop me.” “Maybe not,” Tee said, opening the journal to a page filled with symbols. “But my mother can.” The symbols began to glow, and the air around them crackled with power. The battle was about to begin.
