…But as Tee stood, she noticed a faint shadow at the edge of the square. It was small, barely visible, but it moved. She blinked, and it was gone. Maybe it was her imagination. Maybe the fight was truly over. Or maybe the darkness was not gone, only waiting. Tee held her family tighter and vowed to protect them, no matter what came next. The hollow inside her would not win. She would fill it with love, one moment at a time, until the hope returned. And if it never did, she would still fight. She would still choose. She would still be their mother. That was enough.
