…She reached down, her hands trembling, and picked up the letter. The wax was warm, as if it had just been placed there. She broke the seal and unfolded the paper. Inside, in a spidery script, was a single line: “I am coming for what is mine.” Tee looked up at Elias, her face pale. His expression was unreadable. The town around them seemed to darken, the sun dipping behind a cloud. And in the distance, she heard a sound like heavy footsteps, slow and deliberate, coming closer. She was not safe. She had never been safe. And the battle for her child had only just begun.
