…The silence stretched, punctuated only by the distant chirping of birds and the faint murmur of confused park-goers. Danti, the shy, overthinking protagonist, had just orchestrated the most public, most awkward, and potentially most disastrous confession of his life. And the love interest, the object of his affections, was smiling. Not judging, not rejecting, but smiling. It was the most unexpected outcome he could have ever imagined. He had expected rejection, humiliation, perhaps even a swift exit from the park. He had not expected… this. This strange, bewildering, and dare he hope, a little bit promising, reaction. The wilting houseplant, it seemed, had just been watered.
