The whispers of folklore were no longer confined to dusty pages; they were seeping into the present, and the carnival’s darkness was reaching out to claim its prize. The fight, it seemed, was just beginning. Elara closed the journal, a sense of purpose hardening her resolve. The fear was still there, a cold knot in her stomach, but now it was tempered with something else: a dawning comprehension, and a fierce, protective anger. The painted grin of the carnival was beginning to reveal its true, monstrous face, and Oakhaven, whether it knew it or not, was about to face its greatest reckoning.
