…Danny puffed out his chest, a proud smile gracing his lips. He looked at his hands, the hands that had counted out so many numbers, the hands that had helped him balance turkeys and experiments and Mindy Mangos. He had started out not sure, a little bit worried about numbers. But with Papa’s help, and with the magic of the song, he had learned. He had grown. He could add. He could do it all. He was, without a doubt, a math whiz. And as the last notes of the music faded, a quiet sense of accomplishment settled over him, warm and comforting, like a cozy blanket on a cool evening. The adventure of addition, for today, was complete.
