…She turned back to the crime scene, the faint smudge still drawing her attention. It was more than just a smudge. It was a clue. And her paranoia, that ever-present companion, was whispering that this little clue was connected to something much, much bigger. The apartment might be quiet, but Rene felt a storm brewing, and she was standing right in the eye of it. She crouched down, her gloved fingers hovering inches above the floor. This was her job now. This was her calling. And even if her mind sometimes played tricks on her, it also saw things others missed. Like the faint shimmer of glitter clinging to the edge of the smudge. Glitter. Interesting. Very, very interesting.
