…Taken this morning. Carol leaned over. "What is it?" Kira couldn't answer. Her hands were shaking too hard. Louise stood up and walked to the front window. She pulled the curtain aside just a crack. Across the street, a car was parked under a tree. Dark sedan. No plates visible. And behind the wheel, a figure sat watching the house. Louise let the curtain fall. "We need to call Renfro." Kira's phone buzzed a third time. Another text: "I'm patient. Are you?" She looked at her mother. The fear in Carol's eyes mirrored her own. The nightmare wasn't over. It had only just begun.
