…From somewhere outside, a car horn sounded. Then another. Distant, but sharp. Kira spun toward the window. Through the tinted glass, she saw a figure standing on the sidewalk across the street. Gray jacket. Hands in pockets. Facing the station. “He’s there,” she whispered. Renfro followed her gaze. “I see him.” She raised her radio. “Suspect in sight. Southeast corner, across the street. All units approach—do not engage unless he makes a move.” Kira watched as William stood motionless. Then slowly, deliberately, he raised one hand and pointed directly at her. And smiled. Her phone buzzed one last time. Tick tock, Kira. Sundown is coming.
