…Louise pulled into the police station parking lot. The building was low and gray. A flag hung limp in the still air. “Let’s go in together,” Carol said. “All of us. One story.” Kira opened her door. The heat of the day was already building. She stepped out onto the asphalt and looked at the station doors. They were heavy and dark. Behind her, the street was empty. But she knew he was out there somewhere. She walked toward the doors with her mother on one side and Josh on the other. Louise followed close behind. Inside, the lobby was cool and quiet. A sergeant sat behind the desk, looking up as they entered. “Can I help you?” Kira stepped forward. “I need to report a stalker. Again.”
