…I’ll give you until sunrise to come outside and talk to me. Then I’ll knock. She read it aloud. The room went still. “He’s here,” Carol breathed. Josh moved to the window and parted the curtain just enough to see. The street was empty, the porch light casting a small circle of gold. But as he watched, a figure stepped out from behind the oak tree at the edge of the lawn. He was wearing a dark coat, hands in his pockets. He stood still, looking directly at the house. “He’s here,” Josh confirmed. Kira’s stomach dropped. She looked at the text again. Sunrise was still hours away. But she knew he wouldn’t wait long. The hook was set. Tomorrow would come sooner than she wanted.
