…I didn't move to stop him. Instead, I took a step forward, my own gaze locking onto Liann, not with fear, but with a detached, analytical curiosity. She met my gaze, her expression unreadable, a faint, knowing smile playing on her lips. She had chosen this. She had embraced it. And now, it seemed, so was I. The air crackled with an unseen energy, the clearing a stage for a ritual I was only just beginning to understand. Taji was a broken god, Liann a willing sacrifice, and I, Malachi, was the heir to their twisted legacy. The serpent had found its willing embrace, and its coils were tightening around us all.
