But how could he lead them towards a destination, towards a future, without acknowledging the profound doubts that now clouded his own mind? The path forward, once illuminated by a fragile light, was now shrouded in an even deeper, more unsettling fog. The weight of knowledge, of this terrible, incomplete truth, settled upon his shoulders, heavier than the humid air, heavier than the encroaching darkness. The old world was gone, that much was certain. The new one was a terrifying unknown, and he, along with everyone else, was being forced to step into it, blindfolded.
