…A hunger stirred within me, a dark echo of the artifact’s own insatiable need. It wasn’t my hunger, not entirely, but it was now a part of me. A terrifying realization dawned: the artifact wasn't just a tool. It was a symbiont. And it was growing. I clenched my fist, the artifact pressing against my palm. The war was changing. And so was I. The whispers in the ruin were no longer just the sounds of a broken city. They were the nascent stirrings of something far more ancient, far more terrifying, and I, Janek, was now its unwilling harbinger. The tide of the war, I suspected, was about to turn in a way none of us could have ever imagined, and the cost would be unimaginable.
