…I looked at the date on the envelope of the first letter: June 14th. My birthday. A small, almost imperceptible shiver ran down my spine. It felt like a sign, a whisper from the past. I knew, with a certainty that surprised me, that I had to go to Brownsville. I had to see this place my mother had loved, to walk in the fields where daisies and violets bloomed, to find out what other secrets lay hidden in the echoes of Brownsville River del.
