…"Foolish girl." He sent a wave of darkness at Lyra. It struck her, and she crumpled to the ground, unconscious. "Lyra!" Aaron screamed. He lunged at the lord, the Heartstone blazing in his hand. But the lord simply waved his hand, and Aaron was thrown back, crashing into the rubble. "You cannot win," the lord said. "But you can join me. Together, we will rule this world." Aaron looked at Lyra's still form, at Silas and the Keeper lying unconscious nearby. He was alone. The shadow whispered, sweet and seductive. Yes. Join him. It's the only way to save them. Aaron closed his eyes, and he made a choice.
