…"Run!" the Keeper shouted. They turned and fled, the darkness chasing them through the forest, hungry and relentless. Aaron ran, Lyra beside him, Silas and the Keeper close behind. The trees bent and twisted, the ground cracking beneath their feet. They burst from the forest as dawn broke, the light of the sun burning away the shadow. Aaron collapsed to his knees, gasping, the Heartstone pulsing weakly in his hand. "We have to go back," he said, but he knew it was a lie. The shadow demon lord had won this round. But Aaron was still free. And he would find another way. The war was far from over, and the true enemy had only just revealed himself.
