"Then I'll be ready," Aaron said. The messenger smiled. "We shall see." She vanished, leaving only the wind and the settling dust. Lyra put a hand on Aaron's shoulder. "Come on. Let's go home." They turned and began the long walk back to Thornhaven. Behind them, the Sunken Temple crumbled into the sands, its guardians defeated, its secret taken. But ahead, the storm was gathering. The Umbra Lord's shadow stretched across the land, and Aaron knew—this was only the beginning.
