And somewhere in the dark, Thorne was waiting. When Elara finally lay in her bed, she closed her eyes and listened. The falls hummed their lullaby, but underneath it, she heard another sound—a low, rhythmic thumping. Like a heart. Like the stone’s heart, beating inside her own chest. She sat up, gasping. The sound stopped. But she knew it wasn’t gone. It was waiting. Just like Thorne. Four nights. And then everything would change.
