…Elara didn't sleep that night. She lay awake, feeling the pulse of the earth beneath her house. The falls sang to her, a lullaby and a warning. She touched the pouch at her hip. Salt, iron, moonstone. She hoped it was enough. At two in the morning, her phone buzzed. Lyra: I'm scared. Elara typed back: Me too. But we're not alone. Lyra: Promise you'll come back. Elara: I promise. She put the phone down and stared at the ceiling. The full moon was five days away. And somewhere in the forest, Thorne was building his power. But she had the falls. She had her friends. And she was learning to ask the water for answers. That was everything.
