…He turned and walked back into the trees, disappearing as silently as he'd come. Elara stood by the pool, watching the water settle. The falls hummed, and she hummed with them. When she got back to her room, it was almost two in the morning. She texted Lyra: I'm okay. We'll talk tomorrow. Lyra replied in seconds: Good. Don't die. Elara smiled and put her phone away. She lay in bed, the stone in her pocket, the pouch at her hip. She could feel the falls even here, a constant thread pulling at her heart. She didn't know what the next full moon would bring. But she knew one thing: she wasn't alone anymore. And she was learning to ask the water for answers. That was something.
