It’s cold, and I think I saw a shadow behind the shed.” They laughed, the sound a relief against the night. As they filed into the cottage, Elara glanced back at the horizon. The Keeper’s fury was still there, a distant storm. But her mark hummed with the falls’ promise, and she knew—whatever came, she would face it. Not alone. With William, with Lyra, with all of them. The chapter ends with Elara closing the door, the warmth of the cottage wrapping around her, and the faint echo of the Keeper’s laughter on the wind.
