…Elara lay on her back, staring at the sky. The sun was warm, but she felt cold inside. The Keeper had touched her, and she knew it would not give up. “We need to find another way,” she said. “A way that doesn’t involve bargaining with that thing.” Seraphine sat beside her, breathing hard. “There is another way. But it requires a sacrifice.” Elara turned her head. “What kind of sacrifice?” Seraphine looked at her, and for the first time, Elara saw fear in her mother’s eyes. “The kind that leaves a mark that never fades.” The chapter ends with the group returning home, the weight of the Keeper’s whisper still lingering in Elara’s mind, and the promise of a difficult choice ahead.
