But the one who planted the seed—that is new.” Elara stared into the dark tea. “Who would want to test me?” Maren was silent for a long moment. Then she said, softly, “Perhaps someone who wants to see if you are worthy of a greater burden.” Elara looked up. “What greater burden?” But Maren only smiled and shook her head. “That is a story for another night. Rest now, child. Tomorrow, we begin the search.” Elara nodded, though sleep felt far away. The hum in her chest had become a song, and the song was asking a question she did not yet know how to answer.
