…A hand touched her shoulder. It was Mira, her eyes clear and warm. “Are you all right?” Elara managed a smile. “I will be. We will be.” They stood together in the growing light, two friends bound by more than blood or magic. The mark on Mira’s wrist caught the first ray of sun, glinting like a promise. And somewhere deep beneath the falls, the ancient waited, patient and watchful, for the day when the guardian would speak its name again. But that day was not today. Today, there was only the quiet triumph of having chosen hope over fear, and the knowledge that the bond—however changed—still held.
