Elian walked up to her. “Does it hurt?” “No,” Elara said. “It feels like home.” She looked at her grandmother. “Will you stay?” “For a while,” the old woman said. “There is much to tell you about your lineage. And about the threads that still need weaving.” Elara smiled. The night was deep, but the stars were clear. The falls hummed a gentle tune. She was tired, but whole—more whole than she had ever been. And in the distance, beyond the forest, a single lantern flickered in a window. Someone was watching. Someone was waiting. The story was not over. But for now, she had won a moment of peace.
