…"Then we tell him the truth first." She saw hope flicker in Silas’s eyes, fragile and new. He stood, his movements slow. "We go at dawn. Bring Lyra and Kael. We will need their help." Elara nodded. She looked up at the falls, where the mist sparkled in the moonlight. The pulse was steady again, but she knew it was only a pause before the next storm. The bridge she had built was not enough. Now she had to find a lost boy and show him there was another way. "I’m not alone in this," she said, more to herself than to Silas. He placed a hand on her shoulder, his grip warm. "No. You never were." They walked back to town together, and the night felt less dark.
