Lyra was clutching her parents, sobbing. Mira helped Kael stanch a wound on his arm. Seraphine stood over Elara, her face unreadable. "You let him go." "I saved Lyra’s family." "He will come back stronger." "I know." Elara looked at the rubble, at the place where her father’s essence still whispered in the water. "But now I know I can hurt him.
