…One afternoon, as I practiced my speed, a flicker of movement caught my eye at the edge of the clearing. It was gone in an instant, too fast for me to identify, but the feeling of being observed, of being hunted, was palpable. My breath hitched. “They are aware of our presence,” Silas stated, his voice devoid of surprise. He had seen it too. The game had changed. The sanctuary was no longer safe. The awakening had truly begun, and with it, the hunt had escalated. The whispers in the dark had become the rustle of approaching predators, and I, the fledgling vampire, was caught in their sights. The fight for my future, and perhaps for the future of a forgotten balance, had just begun.
