…Torn between the urge to help and the primal instinct for self-preservation, I turned and ran, following the faint murmur of water. The sounds of Silas’s fight faded behind me, replaced by the pounding of my own blood and the rustling of leaves underfoot. The darkness was a tangible entity, pressing in, but beneath the fear, a new emotion began to stir – a fierce, desperate resolve. I would not be hunted. I would not be a victim. Whatever this new reality was, I had to face it. I had to survive. The hunt had begun, and I was now the prey, but perhaps, just perhaps, I was also learning how to become the hunter.
