The demise of my relationship was just another casualty in the war for my soul, a war that was being waged in the shadows of the Black Woods, and in the desolate landscape of my own fractured existence. The ghost of my former life, embodied by Sarah’s departure, was a painful reminder of what I had lost, but the spectral child was a constant, unnerving presence that promised only more torment, more mystery, and a future I was increasingly terrified to face.
