…It was a piece of the puzzle, but it was not the whole picture. The girl was still a mystery, her story still shrouded in darkness. But for the first time since I had entered this hellish afterlife, I felt a sliver of hope. Perhaps, just perhaps, understanding her was the key to understanding myself, and to breaking free from this cycle of torment. The spectral hand retreated, her gaze softening, a hint of something other than accusation in her hollow eyes. The growl, for the first time, seemed to fade, replaced by a spectral sigh that echoed through the desolate landscape. The chase, it seemed, was not yet over, but the nature of it had begun to shift.
