…She poured herself a glass of wine and sat in her study, the address book with Victor's number safely hidden away. She thought of Elara, of the life she would lose, and felt nothing but cold satisfaction. Leo would come to live with her. She would raise him properly. He would be a Vance, through and through. The future was bright. And Helena would make sure it stayed that way. But as she raised her glass to her lips, she couldn't shake the feeling that somewhere, in the shadows, a truth was waiting to escape. She dismissed it. The truth was whatever she made it.
