They were here to be consumed. “Kai,” Eva said, her voice grim, “prepare for immediate extraction. We’re coming back to the ship. Now.” The words felt like a surrender, a confession of failure. But survival, she realized, was the only mission that mattered now. The Zenith was far behind them, and something unspeakable lurked in the terrifying darkness that lay ahead.
