…With one final, shared glance, a silent promise passing between them, Leo and Maya stepped forward, their figures silhouetted against the impossible, star-dusted indigo. The Glimmering Gate shimmered, and then, with a sound like a sigh of starlight, it swallowed them whole. The archway pulsed one last time, the specks of light within it seeming to wink out, leaving the rise silent and empty once more, as if the two friends, and the impossible doorway they had stepped through, had been nothing more than a shared dream.
