…“We need to go,” Elara said, her voice tight with urgency. “Now.” Without another word, they scrambled out of the shop, their earlier sense of bewildered curiosity replaced by a desperate, primal fear. The sun, which had been a pale disc in the sky, seemed to have retreated entirely, plunging Oakhaven into an unnatural twilight. The growling intensified, a chorus of unseen threats closing in. They were no longer just lost. They were hunted. And the secrets of Oakhaven, it seemed, were not content to remain buried. They were alive, and they were hungry. The ancient town had awakened, and they were its unwilling guests.
