Beneath the Silent Sky

…"Leo! Come on!" Sam’s desperate shout jolted him back to reality. Leo dove into the crevice, the rough earth scraping his skin. Sam followed, pulling the opening shut behind them with a heavy, fallen branch, plunging them into absolute darkness. They lay there, huddled together in the suffocating blackness, their breaths coming in ragged gasps. Outside, they could hear it. The scraping, the snuffling, the frustrated growls. It was searching for them. They were no longer just lost; they were being hunted, and for the first time, Leo knew with chilling certainty that they were not alone. The silent sky above had been a lie, a thin veil over a darkness that was now very, very real.
