…The Sea Serpent plunged into the swirling vortex Lyra had created, the water crashing over the deck, drenching us all. The spectral crew, though weakened, held their ground, their spectral forms clinging to the deck as if tethered. Thorne’s ship, the Sea Witch, loomed closer, her cannons trained on us, her crew a grim tableau of anticipation. The air crackled with an unseen energy, the tension palpable. We were sailing directly into the eye of a storm of Thorne’s making, and the Obsidian Tide pulsed beneath it all, a dark heart beating in the depths, waiting for its master. The true test, I knew, was about to begin.
