Believing or Not

…She had learned that believing in something—or someone—was an act of will, but true self-worth was an act of self-recognition. She had looked into the mirror after the illusion shattered, and instead of seeing a fool, she saw a survivor. She was not defined by the man who hadn't existed, but by the strength it took to walk away from the empty promise and reclaim the tangible, messy, beautiful reality of her own life. The rebuilding wasn't finished, perhaps it never would be entirely, but the foundation was finally solid beneath her feet.
