…He had come this far, escaping the dungeons, navigating the Emperor's city, only to be confronted by this ultimate obstacle. His Roman discipline screamed for a direct assault, for a calculated charge. But the sheer aura of the approaching entity suggested that such a tactic would be suicide. "We can fight it," Archius said, his voice firm, though a tremor ran through it. "Or we can try to outsmart it." Lyra met his gaze, a spark of understanding igniting between them. The choice was theirs. The fate of his escape, and perhaps something more, rested on the path they chose. The thrumming grew louder, the growl closer. The Guardian was almost upon them.
